Final Stretch

Morgan's new ad - The Congressional ATM Machine - going after Rob Bishop for ES3 earmarks has gone viral! Watch and then please, take a moment to make a secure online contribution to the campaign to elect Morgan Bowen. Even $10 could make the difference between more of Rob Bishop's failed leadership, and a representative who will stand up for Utahns instead of corporate interests.

Watch the new ad, and pass it on!

Bowen to Bishop on Energy and Spending: Where Were You Three Years Ago?

Right on the heels of Friday's debate, a great article in the Salt Lake Tribune today, defining the differences between Morgan Bowen's suggested policies, and Rep. Rob Bishop's blind towing of the GOP party line. On the energy crisis:
Three-term incumbent Bishop has run several bills this year focusing on rewarding conservation, increasing production of traditional fossil fuels and alternatives and building refineries, pipelines and power lines to create and distribute energy.

He wants to see an immediate increase of leases for oil shale production and oil drilling in offshore locations as well as in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

"There has been once again an arbitrary prohibition against [off-shore drilling] everywhere but the Gulf of Mexico. Even the Democrat side realizes there is not enough supply," said Bishop, a former Brigham City high school teacher and Utah House speaker. "In ANWR, we know there is oil there and a lot of it. There is no logical reason why it shouldn't be done."

Bowen, a high school LDS Seminary teacher from Logan who has never held a public office, has his own plans.

He would also like to see America wean itself from foreign oil. He is OK with drilling on public land, and he wants to provide incentives for oil companies to drill on leases they already have. He also wants a much greater focus on renewable energy, such as wind and solar, and agrees with nuclear power in places that have more water available than Utah.

His biggest disagreement with Bishop is over the timing of the bills.

"Where was Rob Bishop two or three years ago?" Bowen said. "We lost a lot of opportunities."
Good question. The article also describes how Bowen distinguishes himself from Bishop's excuse making on importing radio-active waste into Utah, and the spending and deregulation without oversight that lead to our current economic troubles. Read the rest here.

Going the Rounds With Bishop at the 1st District Debate

The first 1st District Debate is over. The debate was held at the Hub in USU's Student center. There was great energy and great questions asked. Long before the debates I insisted that the Libertarian and the Constitution Party be represented. Will post segments as soon as they are available to view. Here is a sneak peak.

Got Signs?

We just picked up a large order of our new lawn signs. And they all need homes. I recorded a training video, posted on YouTube, that will give the details about sign locations, placement , and legalities. Please take one for your home and set a goal to place many more with your friends and neighbors.

Signs may be picked up at the Salt Lake County Democratic HQ, the Davis County Democratic HQ on Main and Gentile in Layton, the Logan HQ at 55 W Center or email and we can deliver if necessary. The signs are free but if you have a little (or a lot) of money to donate, to help offset the cost, I welcome it.

With your signs, be sure to place them on private property with permission and stay away from putting the signs along the freeway or on public property.

Several of our signs have been stolen. Please, let’s take the high road and not tamper with my opponent’s signs. For those out there stealing our signs, please don’t steal. Not only is it against the law but it shows a lack of integrity. Remember commandment number 8:

Thou Shalt Not Steal!

Happy sign placement.

Power Up America - The Future of Energy Tour

Starting this week I will be traveling to various parts of the state to learn more about the Utah's role in the future of energy independence. Last week we attended the Pickens Plan meeting. This week we will be visiting Solar Unlimited, a solar energy company in my wife's home town of Cedar City, Utah. We will also be visiting the wind power turbines in Spanish Fork. I will keep you posted on the visits as we move toward a real and sustainable energy policy for America.

Happy Pioneer Day from my father Morgan Bowen

Happy Pioneer Day!

Happy Pioneer Day. I love this day! I have always loved my family pioneer stories. My father was the youngest of 16 children and grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah. His grandfather and grandmother, William Bowen and Ruth Jones Bowen, met on the pioneer trail in 1856. They later married and with their extended families settled Spanish Fork. There are many great family stories all across Utah about heroic pioneer experiences.

My father passed away in 1997 during the 150 anniversary of the first pioneer trek into the Salt Lake Valley. I knew some of our family history but when I was sorting through some of his personal belongings I found several journals and interviews with my pioneer ancestors. What a treasure. I learned that my great-grandfather and great-grandmother were both stranded with the Martin Company at Martins Cove, Wyoming during an early winter storm. They suffered a great deal along with hundreds of others. The one thing I appreciated about their experience was their desire to work together to make it though their journey. Everything we have today was built on the great people of the past who sacrificed so we could have a future. Enjoy the parades, the picnics, the family, and the fun. But always remember those great pioneers who have paved the way before.

Pickens Plan

Our nation has spent around 700 billion dollars on foreign oil. That is ridiculous, that needs to be changed. But what to do?

It doesn't matter if you are a rock-solid conservative that doesn't believe in Global Warming or if you Bike twenty miles to work every day to reduce your carbon footprint. Everyone, Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Independents, Constitutionalists, and Greens, have a good reason to start trusting renewable energy sources. To name a few

Are you sick of paying $4.00+ for gasoline?

Do you want to reduce our dependence on foreign oil?

And of course do you want to Breathe?

People may say "WHAT?" on the last one but yes, if we keep the way we are going, our breathing will be compromised. Just look at China and the pollution issues for the Olympic Games. We need to start working today for the future.

Check this Video out, it has some great ideas and please go to www.pickensplan.com to learn more.

Morgan Speaks out on FISA

Bowen calls on Bennett and Hatch to stop Retro-active immunity

A little while ago my father (Morgan Bowen candidate UT CD-1) called on Utah's senators Bob Bennett and Orrin Hatch to Vote to stop retroactive immunity to telecoms. Pity they didn't listen, I agree with my father, Congress is eradicating our constitutional rights.

HYDE PARK, UT: (UT CD-1) Democratic Candidate Morgan Bowen again today blasted what he calls "government run amuck." On the day of the US Senate's vote on whether the Congress should grant retroactive immunity to telecoms that cooperated with the government's illegal and unconstitutional domestic spying program, Bowen released the following comments:

"I urge Senators Hatch and Bennett to protect the Constitution and to vote on this bill with the rule of law foremost on their minds. Illegal and unconstitutional acts should not be forgiven, long after the fact, regardless of excuses, or party pressure.

"Members of the Utah Congressional Delegation, including a member of my own party, have already shown unfortunate judgment on this bill and, because of the surrender of their oath to protect the Constitution, set adside by these US House members, Hatch and Bennett have the opportunity to stop this egregiously un-American bill.

Morgan Bowen on the Issues: Defending our Constitutional Liberties and FISA

Here are a few words on my dad's opinion of FISA and retro-active immunity.

Benjamin Franklin said “Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both."

As a candidate for the United States Congress, I oppose granting retro-active immunity to telecommunications companies - who willingly broke the law, when so many others refused to do so - and the illegal wiretapping of American's on the notion that no entity or body of government is above the law, according to our Constitution. While we do face serious threats to our national security, I believe it is possible to combat these threats without the erosion of our most basic liberties, and the protection from an invasive government body that the founding fathers made great efforts to include when drafting the Bill of Rights. This administration's and our current congressman’s thinly masked agenda to grant retro-active immunity and remove oversight from the surveillance process is not so much about protecting American's from realistic threats, but rather protecting this administration, and the representatives who supported them from accountability and their sworn duty to uphold our constitutional rights as American citizens.

Thomas Jefferson wisely said: "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."

It is time for our Utah values of respect for the United States Constitution, liberty, and a just and free America are defended once again.

Thoughts From the Kitchen Table

Welcome to the Eight Bowen Blog. Starting with my grandfather Larry Lee Bowen, our family has had a tradition of discussing Politics around the kitchen table. We talk about international, national, and local news. We discuss what we think would be best to solve these problems. Well now the Bowen family wants to take the next step. We want to share our ideas with you. Please give any feedback, constructive criticism, or comments that you want.
